Study Method & Duration

The NEBOSH International General Certificate can be studied via distance learning. You will be provided with course materials written by Phoenix which will also include study/revision/exam advice, support details and your study planner.

Support is offered by our expert health and safety tutors, whom you can contact by telephone or email. You will also have access to the Facebook group specifically for Phoenix distance learning students, where you can discuss any aspects of your studies with tutors and other students.

You can enrol at any time. The course can be studied in your own time, with total flexibility around your available hours.

  • Element 5 - Health & Safety management system 4 – Act

Unit 2 - GC2 - Controlling Workplace Hazards

  • Element 1 - Workplace hazards and risk controls
  • Element 2 - Transport hazards and risk controls
  • Element 3 - Musculoskeletal hazards and risk controls
  • Element 4 - Work equipment hazards and risk controls
  • Element 5 - Electrical safety
  • Element 6 - Fire safety
  • Element 7 - Chemical and biological health hazards and risk controls
  • Element 8 - Physical and psychological health hazards and risk controls

GC3 - Practical Application

The practical assessment is carried out in the candidate's own workplace. The practical must be completed within 14 days of the GC2 written examination.


Candidates are assessed with two written and one practical examination. Candidates need to pass all three units within a five-year period. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A certificate award parchment is issued on completion of three units.
