The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety can be the gateway to a variety of not just jobs, but careers. It is widely recognised as an ideal first step towards becoming a health and safety professional, often taken by people who have had health and safety as part of their duties and now wish to it to become their specialist field.
Job titles to which NEBOSH certificate holders can aspire include:

A necessity rather than a "nice to have"
In 2016 it was reported that 45% of vacancies in the health and safety profession exclude candidates who don't hold some a NEBOSH certificate level qualification, and the trend is upwards. So by 2019 figure can only be higher. It is becoming essential to career progress in the industry.
A salary boost too
NEBOSH publishes its own Jobs Barometer study, and this shows that holding a professional qualification can make a considerable difference to the salary expectations of health and safety professionals. At the top end of the profession, those required to hold a NEBOSH diploma earn on average 16% more than those in jobs where the Diploma wasn't specified.
